The Way Back

The Way Back – The Story of the World in Light of the Sanctuary

Song lyrics, narrations and references

The River and the Tree

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Rev 22:1-4,6-7,13,17,20)

He showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal

Proceeding from the throne of God and the Lamb

In the middle of it’s street and on either side of that river

Was the tree of life which bore (different fruit every month of the year)

The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Chorus:

Then he said… these words are faithful and true…

Behold, I come quickly!

Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book

I’m the Alpha, Omega, Beginning and End, The First and the Last.

Blessed are those who do His commandments that they may have the right to the tree, the tree of life.

Vs2

And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and …the Lamb shall be in it

And His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face

And His name shall be on their foreheads… there shall be no night there

They need no lamp nor the light of the sun for the Lord God gives them light.

And they shall reign for ever and ever.

-Chorus-

Bridge:

And the Spirit and the bride say come (let him take of the water  of life freely)

And let him who hears say come (let him take of the water if life freely)

And let him who’s thirsty, come (even so come Lord Jesus)

-Chorus-

The Tree (hallelujah)

The Tree of Life (hallelujah)

The River (hallelujah)

The River and the Tree of Life

Narration – The Treasure

What if you were told you would be granted one single wish. Anything you wanted in the entire world. What would you chose?Wealth? Wisdom? Eternal youth?

What if you knew of a hidden treasure that would give you all those things, and, best of all, the most powerful incredible love in the universe? Would your one wish be for that treasure map?

What if today you learned that this treasure was always meant to be yours, from the very beginning, but somehow you lost your way. Would you do anything and everything possible to obtain the map that would show you the way back to this treasure?

The story you are about to hear is about this treasure map. It is the story of the world. The story of victory over darkness, and the ultimate triumph of love. It’s the story of the big picture …of where we came from and where we are headed, if only we follow the map back to our true destiny, which will far exceed our wildest dreams.

The Way Back

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

A shining lovely road stretched before them, a far out destiny

A new and special race, pristine beginnings, in the image of God

Painstakingly created, these higher beings from the Highest High

Would someday judge angels; the universe was in awe

They walked with God Himself as friends do sharing thoughts in the cool of the day

The mysteries of their existence opened to their minds along the way

Until that fateful moment they let it slip away…

But incredibly Heaven, Heaven called them, calling them by name

Seeking them out and drawing them in while they were naked and afraid

Losing Paradise…such cruel regret; such a bright future they chose to forfeit

But the way back home shined even brighter yet

A shining lovely road stretched before you…until it slipped away.

Sadly lost the path for your life…your destiny

But the God of second chances promised to redeem the time

He’ll bring beauty from ashes, such beauty

Infinite love foresaw this emergency and made an astounding plan

A sinner brought into the very heart of God, nearer than if he’d never fallen

Crazy, unbelievable love…what love is this…

Yes, incredibly Heaven, Heaven calls you, calling you by name

Seeking you out and drawing you in saying Do not be afraid…(x2)

But more than restoring what we lost in the fall

An even grander future awaits, a higher call

Cause the way back home ends up being best of all

Such an amazing plan we chose to forget

But the way back home is more amazing yet

The way back home shines even brighter yet

Narration – Message of Mercy

All of Heaven is calling out to us. Even as we speak, angels are traveling to the four corners of the earth, seeking to impress minds and hearts. The eternal destiny of each soul depends on how they respond…and on whether they will follow this treasure map back Home.

Heaven is trying to get our attention …with the most important message of all time. The last message of mercy to a lost and hurting world.

He who has ears, let him hear.

Come   (Rev 22:17, 20)

 Narration – Perspective

Is it possible that the treasure could be right in front of us, but we don’t even see it? Maybe our prayer should be for open eyes…

Let Me See

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

Lord, I have fallen down

I’ve lost my way and find it hard to turn around

The dissonance inside tears me apart

I want to follow you, but have a wandering heart

And I’m not sure that I am really seeing

And I don’t think I always sense the whole reality

Because I suppose, if I were constantly aware of what’s at stake

I could never, ever tear my eyes from your face

Lord, I am alarmed

Enchanted by the very things that do me harm

Let me run to You, my worthy goal

The Lamb that bled for me Lover of my soul

And I’m not sure I fully comprehend

And I don’t think the whole significance has settled in

Because I suppose if I were totally aware of what you gave

I could never, ever tear my eyes from your face

Lord, open my eyes

Help me grasp the truth of a grace that never dies

Let me not forget that you’re in love with me

Yes you’re in love with me

Let me see

Lord, give me eyes of faith

Let truth’s perspective shine and illuminate

Momentary gain…what’s the cost?

Being without You is the greatest loss

And I don’t think I’ll ever understand

And I’m not sure forever is long enough for it all to sink in

But I know when at last I see you there, victor of grace

It won’t be possible to tear my eyes from your face

Narration – The War

In the very beginning, long before this world was created, there was God. Incredible, loving, self-sacrificing, Creator God. The law of love was the foundation of His throne. The happiness and harmony of all beings in the universe depended upon their allegiance of love. All was complete bliss.

But one day the peace and joy of the universe was shattered by one of those beings. A mighty angel called Lucifer, the most powerful and glorious angel in heaven, inexplicably began to become discontented. Lucifer was a covering cherub. Of all created beings, he was the one specifically created to stand nearest the throne of God, and nearest the law of love, which is the foundation of God’s throne and government of the universe.

Gradually, Lucifer, who was deeply loved by all the angels, forgot that his glory was not his own but a special gift from God. He began to question why the Son of God, who had created him, was honored above him. “Little by little he began to indulge the desire for self exaltation”… he began to crave the…power of the Almighty God. (Patriarchs and Prophets p35-6)

Lucifer left the immediate presence of the Father, and went out “to (spread) this spirit of discontent among the angels. He began to insinuate doubts concerning the laws that govern heavenly beings, suggesting that while those laws might be necessary for the inhabitants of the worlds, angels, being more exalted, needed no such restraint,  for their wisdom was a sufficient guide.” He said “it was no more possible for them than for God himself to err.” (ibid p37) He claimed that God was not just in laying these laws and rules upon them. (Great Controversy p498)

Satan had been so highly honored, and all his acts were so deceptive, that it was difficult to show the angels the true nature of his work. “Everything that was simple, he shrouded in mystery, and cast doubt upon the plainest statements of Jehovah.” (ibid p496)  “While instilling discontent into their minds he artfully made it appear that he was seeking to remove dissatisfaction. When he urged that changes be made in the order and laws of God’s government, it was under the pretense that these were necessary in order to preserve harmony in heaven.” (ibid p497)

These subtle deceptions eventually gained him the allegiance of fully one third of the angels.

God was long-suffering and merciful, and bore long with Lucifer and his angels. Nothing like this had ever before happened in the history of the universe….and Lucifer did not initially understand exactly what he was doing or to where he was drifting. (ibid p495)

“The heavenly council pleaded with Lucifer.” (ibid p495) “God in His infinite love and wisdom made every effort possible to convince him of his error. The Son of God presented before him the greatness, the goodness, and the justice of the Creator, and the sacred unchanging nature of His law. God Himself had established the order of heaven, and…departing from it (would) dishonor his Maker and bring ruin upon himself.” (Patriarchs and Prophets p35)

“Lucifer was convicted that he was in the wrong.” He saw that the Lord is righteous in all His ways, and that the law of love is just. He was convinced that he needed to acknowledge his error before all. “Had he done this he might have saved himself and many angels…”

He nearly reached the decision to return” to God and to his position as covering cherub. But pride held him back. (ibid p 39)  “Lucifer allowed jealousy of Christ to prevail.” (ibid p 35)  He and his angels finally revolted, and started war in heaven.  Eventually, in mercy to the rest of the inhabitants of heaven, Lucifer and his angels were cast out.

Heaven, where all was once peace and joy and happiness, now became a battleground.

The very first tears fell ….and most of these from God Himself. Not only was this the start of untold woe, He had also lost one of His best friends.

This is where the story begins.

The First Tear

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Isaiah 14:12-13; Ez 28:12-19)

How he is fallen

He who was my friend

For he said in his heart ‘I’ll ascend into heaven

I’ll exalt myself above the stars of God’

I gave him wisdom, beauty and perfection

He was perfect in all his ways from the day he was created

Til iniquity was found in him

Chorus:

He was the anointed cherub who covered the foundation of the throne of God

But pride turned his heart, there was war in Heaven, for he abandoned love’s law

2

How he is cut down to the ground, he who weakened the nations

For he said in his heart ‘I’ll ascend above the heights of the clouds

I’ll be like the Most High’

Isaiah 14:12&13

His heart was lifted up by his beauty, his wisdom was spoiled by his splendor

I will cast him to the ground, lay him before kings that they may gaze upon him

He defended the framework of God’s throne, the law of love, the foundation beneath the Mercy seat

But pride came into his heart, he said no law is needed to be holy

Repeat chorus

Narration – The Controversy

Lucifer, the first of the covering cherubs. Who were these covering cherubs? What made them different than the other angels?

Long ago God gave the world a model of His throne and temple, and also of the covering cherubs. The Sanctuary, which is an integral part of this story, was the pattern given to Moses in the wilderness, and was a model of the sanctuary in heaven. In this model, the covering cherubs were in the Most Holy Place, on either side of the mercy seat. Symbolizing heaven’s respect for the foundation of God’s throne, their faces were pointed down toward the mercy seat, under which were the Ten Commandments, God’s law of love. In essence, this depicted the covering cherubs as creatures designed by the Creator to protect and preserve the law of God. (Hebrews 8:5, 9:11-15, 23-24; Exodus 25:17-20)

But now Lucifer had left his position as a covering cherub, and turned away from the law that was once his joy to uphold and protect. He led out in the movement of rebellion against God’s beautiful law.  (Desire of Ages p21)

This controversy between God  and Lucifer created a huge question. Who was right? In the history of the universe there had never been deceit or lies. And no one had questioned God’s love or wisdom.

Only God knew to what depths of evil and misery this rebellion was leading. But if God had sought to protect His creatures from this evil, and destroyed Lucifer at that time, the whole universe would have then served God from fear, not from love. To ensure the ultimate safety, stability and peace of the universe, and to ensure that sin would never enter the picture again, it was necessary for Lucifer’s plans to be fully developed, that their true nature might be seen by all. “His charges against the divine government” must “be seen in their true light, that the justice and mercy of God and the (unchanging nature) of His law might forever be placed beyond all question.” (Great Controversy p497-8)

All created beings needed to fully understand the nature of God’s perfect law of love, and see that turning away from it would inevitably lead to ruin.

To help resolve the issue, a third-party was needed, to judge between the two sides represented in that war in Heaven. Just like in modern day courts, a jury was needed. A jury of law abiding citizens who had little to no knowledge of the crime…with sound discernment between good and evil. (Deuteronomy 19:16-17)

God created the human race to be that third party…to be judges and jury to help settle the matter before the universe, once and for all. The perfect humans He created were the only ones in the entire universe that could do that.

We were not even in existence during the war in heaven.

This is where we come into the story…

The Judges

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Revelation 1:5-6; 1 Corinthians 6:2-3)

Then God said ‘let us make man in our image’

According to Our likeness let him have dominion of the earth

To Him who loved us and made us kings

And priests to His God and Father, Revelation 1:5-6.

Chorus:

Do you not know…the Saints will judge the world?…

Do you not know that we shall judge angels?

1 Corinthians 6:2-3

Repeat verse and chorus

He made us kings, we shall judge angels, and vindicate God

(C) Margo Westmoreland Blehm 2018

Narration – The Plot

Lucifer, now called Satan, realized humanity would be involved in the judgment process, and knew he had to do something to sway these judges in his favor. He set out to deceive them into thinking God did not really have their best interest in mind. He told them that God was keeping them from a higher state of existence (Patriarchs and Prophets p54) and that they would not die from breaking God’s law, but instead would actually become more exalted. (Genesis 3:4-5)

“This is the way in which he comes to man, as an angel of light disguising his temptations under an appearance of goodness, and making men believe him to be the friend rather than the enemy of humanity.” (Christian Education p73) “…He misrepresented God, attributing to Him the desire for self exaltation. With his own evil characteristics he sought to (portray) the loving Creator. Thus he deceived angels. Thus he deceived man. He led them to doubt God’s word and distrust His goodness. Because God is a God of justice, Satan caused them to look up on him as severe and unforgiving. He drew men to join him in rebellion against God, and the night of woe settled down upon the world.” (Genesis 3:4-5; Desire of Ages p21)

It Said

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Genesis 3)

1

There once was a woman who lived in a garden

The most stunning creature that God ever made

She lived with her husband in this perfect garden

God himself came to visit them every day

There once was a serpent who lived in that garden

A most cunning creature slyly lying in wait

Shining like an angel of light, and as lovely

And the woman one day went to hear what it had to say

Chorus 1:

It said you won’t die

It said God was wrong

It said He was holding us back

A snake in a garden

We were warned all along

But somehow we believed every word that it said

2

And here so long later that strange fruit’s still shining

That serpent’s still singing his same deadly song

So many still falling for those lies they’re hearing

And sadly too many too late will find it was so wrong

Chorus 2:

It said that this fruit

would open our eyes

It said ‘you will be like God’

You’ll judge good and evil

You will not die

You’re holy, you don’t need to follow God’s law

-Repeat chorus 1-

(C) Margo Westmoreland Blehm 2018

 Narration – Hope

But God had a plan….a plan to save the human race He had created. A plan “to reveal (Himself) both to men and to angels…”

Long before the world was created, the Father and the Son had formed this plan, an emergency plan, for such a time as this. God gave evidence of His incredible love by dying for the fallen race. “The mighty argument at the cross demonstrates to the whole universe that the course of sin which Lucifer had chosen was in no way chargeable upon the government of God.” (Darkness Before Dawn p3)

“Satan had accused of God of seeking merely the exaltation of Himself in requiring submission and obedience from His creatures, and had declared that, while the Creator (required) self-denial from all others, He Himself practiced no self denial and made no sacrifice. But at the cross, it was seen that for the salvation of a fallen and sinful race, the Ruler of the universe had made the greatest sacrifice which Love could make.” (Spirit of Prophecy Vol 4 p322)

“Our little world is the lesson book of the universe. God’s wonderful mystery of redeeming love is the theme into which ‘angels desire to look’, and it will be their study throughout endless ages. Both the redeemed and the unfallen beings will find in the cross of Christ their science and their song. It will be seen that the glory shining in the face of Jesus is the glory of self-sacrificing love.” (Desire of Ages p19)

This incredible plan would give the human race a choice, and show them the way back to their true destiny. They could again be citizens with sound discernment, with God’s law of Love written on their hearts, so that they could be the judges they were created to be. They would also replenish the courts of heaven and fill the vacancies created by the fall of so many angels .

But “by His life and His death, Christ has achieved even more than recovery from the ruin wrought through sin. It was Satan’s purpose to bring about an eternal separation between God and man; but in Christ we become more closely united to God than if we had never fallen. In taking our nature, the Saviour has bound Himself to humanity by a tie that is never to be broken. Through the eternal ages He is linked with us. ‘God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son.’ John 3:16. He gave Him not only to bear our sins, and to die as our sacrifice; He gave Him to the fallen race.” (Desire of Ages p25)

God’s plan, the pathway back to Him, results in the human race being exalted higher than if they had never fallen. What love!!

For Me

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Isaiah 53:2-11; John 3:16-18; Desire of Ages p25 )

For God so loved the world

That He gave His only Son

Knowing too well that few would care enough to see

This precious, precious Gift he gave

To the reckless human race

So a world of wandering souls could be set free

So a world of hurting souls could be set free

For God so loved the world

That He gave His only Son

But dying a sinner’s death seemed to Him too small a thing

Outrageously, forever

He gave Him to the fallen race

God, linked to us for all eternity

With deeper ties than unfallen angels will ever see

Chorus:

He gave Himself to mankind

Knowing few would accept His sacrifice

I cannot waste this life He spilled for me

A Root out of dry ground

Of no reputation

God, wrapped in frail humanity

He gave His broken body

Forever to a fallen race

But He would have done it all just for me

Yes, He would have done the same if it were only me…

For God so loved the world

That He became a humble Man

Forever and always to retain His humanity

And this Creator of the universe

For me became sin

So He could pay my debt at Calvary

Yes, He paid my debt at Calvary

Repeat Chorus

(C) Margo Westmoreland Blehm 2018

Narration – The Shelter

So what is the importance of the sanctuary? Why did God instruct Moses to build such a structure? Is it an old dusty replica that was only meaningful to some people in the desert thousands of years ago…or does it apply even more specifically to us, right now?

If you look up the word “sanctuary”, one definition is a place of shelter, of refuge. What if the sanctuary had everything to do with protection and safety…and was all about the only One in the universe who can provide it?

What if every part of the sanctuary showed us something profoundly amazing about Jesus, our true Refuge?

If you look closely at each piece of furniture in that sanctuary pattern, you will see that it points to a specific ministry that Jesus is doing or has done for us, for our salvation. In fact, if you were to draw an outline around all of these symbolic pieces in the sanctuary, it would be in the shape of a cross…!

The altar of sacrifice represents Jesus as the lamb of God. The laver, Jesus as the Water of Life. The Table of Showbread, Jesus as the Bread of Life. The Altar of Incense, Jesus as our Intercessor. The seven branched candlestick, Jesus as the Light of the world. And the Ark of the covenant in the most Holy Place, represents Jesus as the Law of Love and Mercy.

God said, let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them. (Exodus 25:8). Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be called Immanuel, which means God with us. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23)

In short, the sanctuary reveals Jesus. Down to the smallest details. Like the man Jesus who lived on earth, the outside was plain and simple, but inside was the very presence of God.

Psalms says, “Your way o God, is in the sanctuary.” (Psalm 77:13) The Bible does not tell of many ways to heaven. There is only one Way. Jesus. Other religions and their gods claim to be one of many ways. But the Bible tells us there is no salvation in any other, for there is no other name by which we can be saved. (Acts 4:12)

The sanctuary reveals this Way. It  points us toward heaven by revealing Jesus…and His death on the cross.

But what if it also is a blueprint showing us what will inevitably happen in our lives if we truly accept His death for us?

What if each part of the sanctuary shows us a step in the way back to the amazing plan for which  God created us? The plan to bring us closer to His heart than any angels ever were, or will ever be? The plan to make us judges and jury, in this great controversy between Christ and Satan?

If the sanctuary is a treasure map revealing the only way to our true destiny, wouldn’t it be a tragedy to disregard it.

Narration – Freedom

The Bible says You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32) Heaven is calling us to break free from our chains.  To leave our life of bondage to sin and walk through the doors of Freedom into His glorious truth.

Walk Through

By Sally Price & Margo Westmoreland Blehm

1

Why do you stand this side of the

barbed wire

Seeing only though a filter of pain,

Remaining only on the grey outside

Tragically beautiful in overgrown weeds

Epic and messy on the sidelines

Why do you stand this side of the barbed wire

Chorus:

Love snaps the wires

         kicks down the posts

Love calls your name

         Shatters the fetters

         Throws open the doors

Love calls your name

Walk through

2

Why do you stay inside your

cold chains

Seeing only through bars of shame

Remaining only in the ironclad inside

Tragically beautiful inside these prison walls

Epic and tortured, dressed in hard lines

Why do you stay inside your old chains

-Chorus-

Love snaps the wires

Kicks down the posts

Calls your name

Shatters the fetters

Breaks down the doors

Calls your name

Narration – Piece by Piece

{See Ivor Myers Blueprint Powerofthelamb.com for further study.}

God’s Way is in Sanctuary. If the Sanctuary is essentially a treasure map showing the way back to happiness, peace and heaven for all mankind…then wouldn’t Satan be determined to destroy it? And that is exactly what has happened. Piece by piece he has attempted to destroy the truths which were explained by the sanctuary…..the truths which expose his lies and present Jesus as the answer to all the world’s problems.

The entire Bible is the story of this map. It’s about how God gave us this map, and how the devil has tried to destroy it.

The Bible describes how the devil used Rome to attack the Sanctuary through the church of the dark ages.

Daniel 8:11 describes the daily sacrifice being taken away, which represented the altar of sacrifice. The dark ages church started the practice of the Eucharist, which did away with Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice on the cross by saying (insinuating) that priests have the power to create Christ, and crucify Him over and over again. It also required people to pay money and perform acts of penance in order to be forgiven for their sins…. as if Christ’s death on the cross was not enough!

The laver, pointing to Baptism by immersion, which was taught by Christ to symbolize being born again, was reduced to the sprinkling of infants who aren’t even able to make a conscious decision to follow Jesus.

Daniel 7:25 talks about how this dark ages power persecuted the saints. This was the devil’s attempt to destroy the seven branched candlestick, which symbolizes God’s people and their light and influence in the world through the Holy Spirit’s power.

Daniel 7:25 also predicted that truth would be cast to the ground. The Bread of Life, which is the Word of God, represented by the table of showbread, was replaced by church tradition. The laypeople were not allowed to own or even read a Bible. The church claimed to be the only entity that could accurately interpret it. Instead of learning the truth for themselves, people had to go to the priests and hear it from them. This left the door wide open for corruption.

This is what led to the dark ages church changing God’s word to suit their agenda. Daniel 7:25 goes on to say that this power would think to change times and laws. It has been Satan’s constant  attempt to destroy the law, the Ten Commandments, which was located in the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place. The law was cast down when the church changed the 7th-day Sabbath to the first day of the week, Sunday, and removed the second commandment. (Converts Catechism Of Catholic Doctrine, 1951, p50)

In addition to all that, Christ’s personal mediation between God and man was replaced by a confessional booth! Instead of going directly to God through His Son, man was directed to go to a priest, a man, for confession of sins. The dark ages church claimed to have power to forgive sins, which is God’s prerogative alone.

But, again, God had a plan! Over a period of about 500 years, the sanctuary truths began to be restored, one by one.

In the 1300s, John Wycliff translated the Bible into the common language, restoring the table of showbread. People were now able to read the Bible for themselves. No more middleman to twist the words of truth.

In the 1400s Martin Luther was born.  He discovered Christ’s sacrifice alone is sufficient to forgive our sins, and that one didn’t need to perform penance in order to be saved…and he started the reformation. Luther helped to restore the truth regarding the altar of sacrifice.

In the 1500s, John Calvin rediscovered the fact that we can pray directly to God with Christ alone as our Intercessor, thus restoring the altar of incense.

In the 1600s, John Smythe introduced baptism by immersion, bringing back the correct view of the laver.

In the 1700s, John Wesley taught that God’s people were to be a light in the world to win others to Christ through the Holy Spirit. He brought back the seven branched candlestick.

There was only one truth of the sanctuary left to be restored. In the 1800s, through William Miller’s influence, the

Seventh-day Adventist movement was born, bringing together all of the truths from the previous churches, but adding the one remaining element…the importance of the law of love contained in the ark of the testimony, in the Most Holy Place.

The importance of the law, which embodies God’s beautiful character, and the fact that He has promised to write His law on our hearts, is the last truth to be restored. This last truth is restored at the very end of the last prophecy mentioned in the Bible.

According to the Biblical time prophecies, there is no time left! We are at the endtime predicted in Revelation, when the angels are shouting out their messages to the world. They are proclaiming  their messages of mercy, pleading with each person to “Fear God and give Him glory, for the hour of His judgment has come… And worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water. Babylon has fallen! Come out of her my people!” (Revelation 14:7-11, 18:4-5)

When you think about it, it’s incredibly astounding that the Creator of the universe would use every single one of His infinite resources toward saving us, who so desperately need Him, but don’t appreciate what He’s doing for us….Us…who are too busy, or think we are too smart, to listen to what Heaven is trying to tell us, to prepare us for His soon coming. What kind of God is this, Who loves us anyway… Who relentlessly pursues our wandering hearts…because a universe without us would break His own. How can we say no to a God like this?

A God Like This

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

What kind of Power breathes out stars and beauty all around me

Just by a thought creating all things and calling all by name

What kind of Grace sees my unbelieving heart and still loves me

To Whom I owe my existence

Yet don’t trust Him to get things right

He is faithful when I am not

Chorus:

What kind of God is this Who loves someone like me

What kind of God is this Who longs to bring me home

What kind of Love is this Who despite my heart, forgives me

He is faithful when I am not

1) I want to worship A God Like This

2) I’ll surrender to A God Like This

3) My heart is melted by A God Like This

2

What kind of Creator pursues me every moment of every day

Who seeks to woo and win my wandering heart

What kind of Love

Gives up all of heaven just to save me

Even when I think that I know better than He

I want to follow a God like this

Narration – The Bride

What do you see when you picture a bride? Some of the most beautiful language in the Bible is used to describe God’s relationship with those who love Him.

”...as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your  God rejoice over you…He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest in his love, He will joy over you with singing.” (Isaiah 62:5; Zephaniah 3:17)

This doesn’t describe somebody who is looking critically at his soon-to-be wife, searching for flaws. This describes a bridegroom who is completely and utterly in love.

In the sanctuary service, one day each year was designated as the day of Atonement. Break that word down and it says at-one-ment. Basically this day represented God and His people becoming one. Like a marriage. It pictured God clothing His people, His bride, in a beautiful spotless wedding gown. This garment represents His own perfect robe of righteousness. In it, His people are seen as absolutely flawless. Adorned with the beauty of His character. Isaiah says “He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61:10)

The day of atonement, in the earthly sanctuary pattern, represented the actual removal of sin from God’s people just prior to His second coming, through the blood of Christ. (Counsels for the Church p347-8)

This is something He does! He does the work! He gives us His faith, His character. He even gives us the desire. We just have to be willing and keep our focus on Him, and give Him permission to make this change in our lives. This will happen inevitably because we are in love with Him too. We become like the ones we love. By beholding we become changed. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

This final removal of sin from our lives, done by God Himself, will vindicate God, and demonstrate to the world and to the universe that God’s holy way is just and true and reasonable. It will disprove Satan’s claims that the law was not fair, that the law was unable to be kept. It will be the last piece of the puzzle. Sinful, weak human beings, living in the darkest part of earth’s history, will be enabled by God Himself to shine the brightest.

God is waiting for us to agree to let Him do this in our lives, so that this final step, this final demonstration to the universe of God’s perfect plan, can be carried out.  When the character of Christ (through His power) shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His own.” (Christ’s Object Lessons p69)

When you think about it, this incredible offer of becoming the bride of Christ, complete with the immeasurable riches of eternal life and heaven, is there anything in this world worth more than this? is anything on earth worth getting in the way of our view of Jesus, even For a Moment?

For a Moment

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Matthew 6:19-20, 13:46; Luke  12:33; 2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

Maybe you’re fine

Maybe you have it all

You’ve got everything

This world can bring

You’re more than comfortable

Or you’re not quite there

Climbing against the grain

You’re fighting for

Just a little more

And struggle to remain

Chorus:

But after a while roses fade

And the soft blush of youth turns to gray

Down in your heart you know

moth, rust and time will take it all away

Why labor for fools gold?

Why invest in bread that only molds?

When all is said and done

all that matters is were you gathered in the fold

Your things define you

Wealth gives you security

What happens when

It comes to an end

You know it’s all transitory

You search for meaning

You fly from flower to flower

For elusive dreams

Sometimes it seems

Your hopes have all gone sour

-Chorus-

Why don’t you take it, that Pearl of Great Price

Laid up for you in heaven

But don’t mistake it for the riches and the shine

Of this world in which you’re  living… for a moment

For a moment

Thorns

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Isaiah 5:4, 53:3-11)

She was the garden of roses where He chose to put His life

A plot of wild and tangled vines of every hue

He left his home and family and took her as His wife

And He said, it’s worth it all to be with you, to be with you

Hers were wild roses, full of brambles and thorns

Trailing vines that crawled along the fence and tree

He loved her dearly and with hands gentle and worn

Tenderly He trained the vines the sun to seek

Upon a trellis made of grace

And as He drew her to Himself His hands and heart were hurt by those jagged thorns

Friends often wondered just why He let Himself be torn

But though His heart of love would often break, she was the apple of His eye

A love so amazing, so divine

A covenant to stand the test of all time

Thorns from those roses cut into my Savior’s brow

His love for me left Him pierced and bleeding

Yet despite the pain He lived and died to win the garden of my heart

And He said, it’s worth it all to be with you, to be with you

Narration – Like Everest

Anyone climbing a mountain knows this one thing. When you have a goal, when something is important enough to you, you will gladly set aside anything that would get in the way of that goal. Mountain climbers know the importance of eliminating anything that might keep them from reaching the summit. Our ultimate goal is a saving relationship with our Savior. In light of God’s incredible sacrifice and love for us, shouldn’t we be willing to leave behind anything that might come between us and Jesus?

Leave It

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Hebrews 12:1; Mark 8:35-6)

The path that leads to heaven

Is straight and narrow, steep at times

Rest for my soul awaits me at the end

And there’s a cross to carry

But the load is sweet and light

So much lighter than the burden of my sin

And there’s no room on this journey

For both the cross and for my crime

As the pathway narrows

More of self is left behind

If anything should dim the view  of Heaven

I’ll lay it aside

Chorus:

I’ll Leave it all behind

Let it go, let it fall away

Drop it all at the feet of Jesus and let it stay

No treasured thing left in the way

No unbelief or doubt or fear

At the feet of Jesus lay it, and leave it there

2

There’s a holy mountain

On which the light of heaven glows

Where the ransomed of the Lord will sing

Loftier than Everest

Purer than Everest’s snows

My God will fly me there

On eagle’s wings

And there’s no room on this journey

For both the cross and for my crime

One by one I’ll lay them all down,

Each darling sin of mine

If anything should dim the view of Jesus

It isn’t worth the time

-Chorus-

Bridge:

Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?

(Hebrews 12:1; Mark 8:35-6)

Narration – The Ark

{See Ivor Myers ‘Blueprint’ at Powerofthelamb.com for further study}

But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. (Matthew 24:37-39.)

Jesus says that just before He returns to earth to take us home, things here will be exactly as they were right before the flood.

The same message that Noah preached is going into all the world today to prepare us for the stupendous events that are coming, and to prepare us for Jesus.

This could not happen before every single truth of the Sanctuary was restored. Not until the last truth, that of the law of love, was understood, could the judgement begin. This judgment that the Bible speaks of could not happen until every single person had the opportunity to choose for themselves whether they would follow this treasure map all the way to God, or not. Whether they will follow God’s law of love, God’s path, or man’s law and man’s path.

Every person needs to see for themselves the beautiful character of God described by the Sanctuary and His law of love. Once they do, if they embrace these truths, they will fall in love with God for Who He is…and beholding Him, they will become changed.

The judgement, and the law that describes God’s character, are not to be afraid of!  The ultimate description of love, His Ten Commandments, is our place of safety…Our refuge. Just like Noah calling all humanity into the ark of protection, God is drawing us closer to Him and His character…He is calling to us to follow Him all the way…into the ark of His testimony! He wants us to know and understand His character, and to make us like Him. He longs to draw us into the one of the closest relationships  that has ever existed in the history of the universe ….a friendship with Him that is even closer than He has with the angels!

The Choice

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

The altar of sacrifice is Jesus’ death for me

The laver shows I was born again

The table of showbread is His word I must eat

The altar of incense- prayer and intercession

The seven branched  candlestick says to let my light shine

Each step brings me nearer to Love Divine

Chorus:

This is Noah, calling, Come on into the Ark

The days are waning, there’s no time to lose

Yes it’s Noah calling, Please come into the Ark

There’s safety in the Ark of refuge

Man’s way or God’s… It’s time to choose

2

Fear God, He’s the Creator of earth and all of heaven

Fear God and give Him glory

Come out of her My people, come out of Babylon

To the safety of the Sanctuary

If you love Me, keep My Commandments

Narration – Justice & Mercy

“Had Lucifer really desired to be like the Most High, he would never have deserted his appointed place in heaven. Lucifer desired God’s power, but not His character. He sought for himself the highest place, and every being who is inspired by his spirit will do the same. Alienation, discord, and strife will be inevitable. Dominion becomes the prize of the strongest. The kingdom of Satan is a kingdom of force; every individual regards every other as an obstacle in the way of his own advancement…a steppingstone on which he himself may climb to a higher place.” (Desire of Ages p435)

For this reason Lucifer could not have been placed on the throne of God. Had he taken God’s place, there would’ve been no solution for sin. The universe would have been run by a tyrant and lost all freedom. Lucifer’s spirit was exactly opposite of the self-sacrificing spirit of God, the God who would give Himself for the life of a guilty fallen race.

“Through Christ’s redeeming work the government of God stands justified. The Omnipotent One is made known as the God of love. Satan’s charges are refuted, and his character unveiled. Rebellion can never again arise. Sin can never again enter the universe.” (ibid p26)

“But it was not merely to redeem man that Christ came to earth to suffer and to die. He came to magnify the law. Not just so the inhabitants of this world might regard the law as it should be regarded, but it was to demonstrate to all the worlds of the universe that God’s law is unchangeable. Could its claims have been set aside (as many claim), then the Son of God need not have yielded up His life…” (Darkness Before Dawn p4)

“The fact that Christ bore the penalty of man’s transgression is a mighty argument that the law is changeless; that God is righteous, merciful, and self-denying; and that infinite justice and mercy unite in the administration of His government.” (From Eternity Past p36)

“God’s love has been expressed in His justice no less than in His mercy…It had been Satan’s purpose to divorce mercy from truth and justice. He thought to prove that the righteousness of God’s law is an enemy to peace. But Christ shows that in God’s plan they are forever joined together. The one cannot exist without the other. Mercy and truth are met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” (Psalm 85:10; Desire of Ages p762)

If we are in Jesus we are safe! This judgement is for us, not against us. It’s for the angels and the whole universe, that we may all understand once and for all that God’s law is only a picture of the most incredibly beautiful, lovely character that ever existed…His own.  And at the very end, every created being will say ‘just and true are Your ways oh King of Saints.’ (Revelation 15:3; Desire of Ages p763)

Someday soon, we will see Him as He is. And we will understand.

When We See

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Ps 85:10)

I’m longing for the day we’ll finally see

Our eyes will open, no more uncertainty

No more misunderstandings… No more fog

A clear and pure revealing of perfect love

We’ll at last understand Grace

When we see His face

Chorus:

We will see on that day

Justice and mercy are one and the same

We’ll see truth kissing Grace

When we see His face

2

We see through this glass darkly, through dimmed eyes

Too often hurt and jaded to see the glorious skies

But soon and very soon that day will come

Our eyes will open and He’ll take us home

We’ll at last understand Grace

When we see His face

-Chorus-

Bridge:

All we found so hard to understand

Was mercy, pure mercy in His nail-scarred hands

And every knee will bow

and worship Him

-Chorus-

No more stumbling right or left

No more missing that straight and narrow path

Judgement is mercy, and all is Grace

Oh truth kissing grace

When we see His face

My Savior’s face

How He Sees Me

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Galatians 2:20; Mark 1:11; Romans 6:3-11)

This is My beloved child in whom I am well pleased

That is what my Father thinks when He sees me

This is My beloved child in whom I am well pleased

Yes, that’s how He sees me

This is My beloved child in whom I am well pleased

Dressed in Jesus’ garment

Not one fault does He See

This is My beloved child in whom I am well pleased

Yes, that’s how He sees me

I’m crucified with Christ

Nevertheless I live

Yet not I, but Jesus lives in me

I’m crucified with Christ

Nevertheless I live

Yes, that’s how He sees me

Yes, that’s how He sees me

How He sees me

How He sees me

Narration – No Fear

(Isaiah 49:16; Numbers 13-14; Prince and Pauper story used by permission and adapted from a Michael Dant audioverse sermon)

When the children of Israel were right outside the borders of the Promised Land, they made a huge mistake. They failed to trust in God’s power to get them through.  They didn’t think He could defeat the giants that awaited them. They looked at their own weakness instead of looking at His strength. They were ready to stone their leaders and return to Egypt where they had been slaves.

Is it the same with us when we don’t take God at His word? When we don’t believe He will do what He said He’d do? Do we believe He is able to conquer the enemy inside of us?

Until we do, we will never have the faith and courage necessary to follow Him through the gates into heaven..

So what good does it do for us to turn away from sin? We can never be good enough be saved . Even if we were to stop sinning now, it would not be enough. So why the emphasis on getting rid of sin?

We have nothing to offer except for our great need. The only hope we have is Jesus. The only thing that we can do is to stay close to him. Turning from sin helps us stay close to Him. Sin separates us from God. It severs our relationship with Him, our only source of light and life. But if we stay close to Him, He will separate sin from us.

There once was a very poor man who badly wanted to be allowed into the king’s castle. But no one would ever let him in because he was filthy and dressed in torn and dirty clothing. One day he decided that if he went to the river and washed up, it might help. He scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed. But it seemed the more he washed, the more dirty he became. He simply could not get himself clean. It was when he gave up trying, that he noticed someone standing nearby. He and this stranger began to visit. As they visited they started walking together. Before he knew what was happening, he was inside the castle. Turns out, the stranger was the Son of the King who owned the castle. Because he was with the Son, he was admitted freely. Jesus is the way. Jesus is the treasure map. His blood covers us….cleanses us. He will cover you with His Robe of righteousness. Stay with Him. He’ll do all the rest. He’ll complete the good work that He started. He’ll do this because your name is written on His hands.

When the storms of this life keep rolling back to back

And there’s no light, no light between them, all is black

I can’t seem to see where we’re headed or how to get there and I’m tempted to doubt You are here

When all that I once found dear is crumbling apart

When family and friends without trying, keep rending my heart

And heaven seems so far away, I start to despair

Hide me O Lord in Your mercy, Your mercy and care, Your care

Chorus:

Let me hide in the shadow of the Almighty

Let me hide in the hollow of Your hand

Cover me with Your feathers, safe under Your wing

For my name You have written in Your hands, the palms of Your hands

2

If You from nothing can make a star

I know, I know that You can re-create my heart

You are the potter, I am the clay. Mold me as You like without delay

Hide me, hide me in You, cover my sin

Give me a new heart, a new heart of flesh within

Re-create my life after Your plan, be the foundation on which I stand, I stand

-Chorus-

Like a baby bird, fallen from the tree

Wretched and naked and blind, please cover me

Cover me with Your feathers

Hide me with Your hand

Has been broken

Covered by His robe, I’m free

I have a new lease on life

I see the world with new eyes

Covered by His robe, I’m free

No longer condemned

For I’m hiding in Him

He’s thrown all my sin into the sea

Now I sing and shout

Got something to shout about

In His precious robe I am free

In His precious robe I am free

The Gates

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm

(Psalms 24:7-10; Numbers 13-14)

We’ve been wandering for so long

In the wilderness just outside the promised land

Lost and wandering…afraid to press on

When the map to that city has been with us all along

And the keys to that city to us belong

We didn’t think that God was able to safely take us in

Could not believe that He was able to slay the giants within

But the time has come to follow our King…

Chorus-

(Who is this King)

Lift up your heads, O ye gates (Who is this King)

Be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors (Who is this King)

And the King of glory shall come in (Who is this King

Be ye lifted up you everlasting doors (Who is this King)

2

We settled down into our old selves, for so long

In the wilderness just outside the promised land

Caleb and Joshua were almost stoned

When the gates to that city were open all along

Yes the gates were open all along

We didn’t think that God was able to take away our sin

Could not believe that He was able to slay the giants within

But the time has come to follow our King…

-Repeat Chorus-

We didn’t think that He was able but the time is come to follow our King

-Repeat chorus-

Who is this King, this King of glory? The LORD strong, strong and mighty

Who is this King, this King of glory? The LORD strong, strong and mighty

Who is this King, this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He’s the King of glory.

Fly Me Home

By Margo Westmoreland Blehm and Ellen G White

(Early Writings p20; Psalm 55:6)

Oh that I were

Just a flying bird

For I have seen

a better land

Oh that I had

Wings like a dove

Then I’d fly away

And be at rest

Then would I fly away

Chorus:

Fly me, fly me away

Fly me , fly fly fly me away

Take me home

Give me wings to fly

Sometimes I think

I can stay here no longer

All the things of earth

Look so drear

I feel lonely

Very lonely

For I have seen

A better land

Let me fly away

Repeat Chorus

(C) Margo Westmoreland Blehm 2018

{Then an angel bore me gently down to this dark world. Sometimes I think I can stay here no longer, all things of earth look so dreary. I feel very lonely here, for I have seen a better land. Oh that I had wings like a dove! then would I fly away and be at rest.
